Casino Fishing Pier Seaside Heights, NJ
« on: July 23, 2009, 10:23:53 PM »
Among the crowds, noises, amusement rides and games and many, many boardwalk foods is a place fishermen like to get away to at the Seaside Heights Boardwalk on Casino Pier.  Believe it or not, you can still be a fishermen from 6:00 AM until Midnight 7 days a week, without fighting the beach goers.  On the north side of the Casino Pier is the Casino Fishing Pier.  The Pier is owned and operated by “Fish.“  He is a great fishermen and has a wealth of knowledge of fishing in this area.  He will go above and beyond to help you any way he can to make your fishing experience the best it can be.  Whether a “pro” fisherman or a first timer, the Pier is a great place to go fishing.  The pier itself is over 600 feet long and over 475 feet of the pier extends into the Ocean.  At the farthest end of the Pier, you are well past the sandbar and into much deeper water than can be reached from the beach.  There is no sand to worry about and no waves to have to cast over.  This allows for a great fishing opportunity to be had by all.  The Pier does charge a small fee for admission.  It is $12 per pole you bring, $24 for admission and pole rental, a $1 for Spectators unless with a paid admission the the spectator is free.  The Casino Fishing Pier also offers a full line of bait, tackle, rod rentals, service and repairs and snacks and drinks.  They also have round basket style nets on ropes to drop down and pull up your catch, since there is a good distance between the water line and getting over the rail.  You will have to park in the metered parking or Municipal Parking Lots along the streets of Seaside Heights.

If you are bringing your own gear, surf setups and tackle will work, however, you may want to scale down the size of your rod.  A 7 or 8 foot medium to medium heavy power, medium to fast action rod with a middle size saltwater reel capable of handling 14-30 lb test line and up to 6 ounces will get the job done.  You will want to have leaders with you and setups for bait.  Fishfinder and Hi-Lo rigs will work just fine with bunker, mullet, clam, squid, killies or any of the many smorgasbord of baits you can use.  If you are fluking you can simply throw bait out with a weight on a fluke rig.  You can bucktail as well off the Pier.  This technique works just as well from the Pier as it does from the surf or any other type of shore acces fishing.  You will also want to keep some lures on hand or bring your favorite lures if you plan to fish this way.  Even if you are going to bait fish, I would recommend keeping some Hopkins, AVA’s, Crocodile Spoons and poppers or surface plugs and a weighted snag to throw in case the bait pods move through and have fish on them.  Bluefish, stripers, fluke, weakfish, and even sharks can be taken from the Pier.

Give it a shot.  You won’t be disappointed.  There are not too many places in NJ that you have this kind of access to the Atlantic Ocean, except by boat.  There are only a handful of Piers like this and this is the only one with Atlantic Ocean access north of Atlantic County.

Good luck and enjoy!

I have not been on Casino Pier for a long time. Do you know what the rates are that they charge to fish? I know they will also let you walk out just to look for a fee as well. Do you know what this is also?

Well either you fished it a very long time ago and are showing your age :P ;) or inflation has affected fishing too ;D.

Yeah, still not bad though.  You can fish all 12 hours they are open and come and go as you please all day, so...

They upped it by 2 bucks from early last year...I guess why shouldn't they be any different.

Maybe I should think about moving to Hawaii and get out of NJ.  At least there you are getting screwed in Paradise... nosmly

I agree.  $12 for all-day fishing is not a bad deal. t^

I think the last time I fished the pier was maybe in the mid to late 80s.  Probably cost about $4 or $5 back then.

You're right.  I guess I am showing my age! ;D

wow, it's been 2 years since I checked the forum, but I am on the FaceBook page.  Just haven't had time to fish as a single parent, and living in NY.  I think I was last active when we were trying to bring home Capt. Dave's son from Brazil.
Anyway I remember Visiting the pier a couple of times, Fish(Bill) was very friendly and helpful especially when I told him I was on this forum and Catfish Hunter pointed me to the pier.  I just watched others fish as the tide was out. I tried the piers on the bayside w/o any luck.
Maybe this is the year for me to head out on the Island, now that my daughter is older.  I remember Paul (Ped579)was a lot of help and even offered to take me out on IBSP, but I never got a chance to take him up on it.
This is a great bunch of people, and I didn't realize how long I've been away. I wear my NJSWF hat often!
Keep those posts about Seaside coming! You're tempting me!
One day I'll have a photo of me and my 1st Striper up instead of this cat.

Hi Folks
Anyone know if the casino Pier is open? Did it make it through Sandy?
I'm just getting over my 9th operation and have not been around much. Just getting back into the swing of things.
Thank you for any information.
